Brain death :

In brain death, blood flow to the brain is stopped, oxygen is not supplied to it. The brain loses all its function and suffers irreversible damage.  Although other organs, including the heart, liver, and kidneys, are still functioning after brain death, they will gradually decline over the next few days.  The brain dead patient does not speak, does not see, does not respond to any external stimuli, and will not be able to breathe without the use of a ventilator.

The need to create a culture for organ donation:

Every day, several people in the country die due to the lack of transplanted organs. Meanwhile, every year, a large number of brain death cases (without organ donation) occur in the country!

The difference between brain death and coma and plant life

In this video, the difference between brain death and similar states of coma and plant life is compared.  Unlike a coma, there is no way for a person who has died of brain death due to brain death to recover.  Therefore, with the timely consent of the relatives of the brain dead person to donate his/her organs, the lives of several people can be saved.  But in a coma, organ donation does not make sense because the brain has not died and can return.  The symptoms of these two conditions are different and can be easily distinguished by specialist doctors.  Unfortunately, many relatives of the brain dead person due to lack of necessary knowledge think that their loved one will return like a comatose person, but it is a misconception!  Due to the toxins caused by brain death, in a few weeks, the complete death of the person will lead to brain death, and if they do not agree to donate an organ, the lives of needy patients will not be saved from death!

Anyone with brain death can resuscitate eight people.  In brain death accidents, the lung is the first organ to be destroyed and a lung transplant requires special expertise, but the rest of the body, including the heart, kidneys, liver, etc., can be transplanted. Organ transplantation is the only way to survive for patients with advanced heart failure, liver, etc.

More than one million people worldwide are currently receiving organ transplant treatment, and some of these patients have survived for more than twenty five years.  Meanwhile, the golden period for organ transplantation is only a few days, an issue that does not have an organ donation card after obtaining organ donation consent from families who have died of brain death.  Organ donation is difficult for coordinating members.  In many cases, families do not easily consent to donating an organ, and the process of obtaining consent from them takes up to four days, during which time the golden time for donating some vital organs, including the lungs, is lost.

Organ donation is a multifaceted category that requires different individuals and organizations to enter to improve the culture in this field.  Officials, NGOs, charities, artists and other influential people in the community play an important role in creating a culture of organ donation.

The organ donation card that people apply for is not legal in Iran, it is the consent of the parents that determines the organ donation of the brain dead person.  But experience has shown that after a person dies of brain damage, when the organ donation card is shown to his family, the family will surely comply with his request.

In our country, the Ministry of Health is taking action to donate an organ with a www.ehdacenter.ir  address. has created a field where people interested in receiving an organ donor card can easily receive it by filling out an online form.  After filling out the online form, the organ donor card comes up and people can take a print of it and take this card with them without the need to go to a special office.

هر فردی که دچار مرگ مغزی می‌شود، می‌تواند هشت نفر را احیا کند.

هر فردی که دچار مرگ مغزی می‌شود، می‌تواند هشت نفر را احیا کند. در تصادفات مرگ مغزی، ریه اولین عضوی است که از بین می‌رود و پیوند ریه تخصص خاصی لازم دارد اما باقی اعضای بدن اعم از قلب، کلیه، کبد و... قابل پیوند است. پیوند اعضا تنها راه ادامه حیات برای بیماران مبتلا به نارسایی پیشرفته قلب، کبد و... است.

در حال حاشضر بیش از یک میلیون نفر در جهان از درمان پیوند عضو بهره مند هستند و بقای تعدادی از این بیماران به بیش از ۲۵ سال رسیده است. در این میان، مدت طلایی برای پیوند عضو تنها چند روز است، مساله ای که با گرفتن رضایت اهدای عضو از خانواده‌هایی که بیمار مرگ مغزی شده آنها کارت اهدای عضو ندارد، برای اعضای هماهنگ‌کننده اهدای عضو مشکل است. بسیاری از مواقع خانواده‌ها به راحتی به اهدای عضو فرد رضایت نمی‌دهند و فرایند رضایت گرفتن از آنها گاهی تا چهار روز طول می‌کشد که در این زمان وقت طلایی برای اهدای برخی اعضای حیاتی از جمله ریه از بین می‌رود. اهدای عضو یک مقوله چندوجهی است که برای بهبود فرهنگ در این زمینه نیاز است که افراد و سازمان های مختلفی ورود پیدا کنند. برای فرهنگسازی در زمینه اهدای عضو، مسئولان، سازمان های مردم نهاد، خیران، هنرمندان و سایر افراد تاثیرگذار در جامعه نقش مهمی دارند. 

کارت اهدای عضو که افراد برای گرفتن آن اقدام می کنند به هیچ عنوان وجه قانونی و حقوقی ندارد و در ایران رضایت اولیای دم است که اهدای اعضای فرد مرگ مغزی را تعیین می‌کند. اما تجربه ثابت کرده است که بعد از مرگ مغزی شدن فرد، زمانی که کارت اهدای عضو او به خانواده اش نشان داده می شود، خانواده حتما به خواسته او عمل خواهند کرد. در کشور ما وزارت بهداشت اقدام به راه اندازی سایت کشوری اهدای عضو با آدرس  www.ehdacenter.ir  کرده است تا زمینه‌ای را به وجود آورد که افراد علاقه‌مند به گرفتن کارت اهدای عضو به راحتی و با پر کردن فرم اینترنتی بتوانند کارت اهدای عضو دریافت کنند. پس از پر کردن فرم اینترنتی کارت اهدای عضو بالا می‌آید و افراد می‌توانند با گرفتن یک پرینت از آن، این کارت را همراه خود داشته باشند بدون این که نیازی به مراجعه به اداره خاصی باشد.
